Welcome to the Particle and Interfacial Technology Group

We are very proud to announce that last year's Master thesis student Ramakanta Duwadi won the second TNAV water technology price with his thesis "Electric field assisted ultrafiltration: modelling and experimental validation". The TNAV water technology price is awarded by a independent jury, and selects the best thesis on the subject of water technology from Flemish research groups.

The Particle and Interfacial Technology Group (PaInT) is a Research Group within the Ghent University that is specialised in the field of particle and interfacial technology. Our group consists of a fixed technical staff of three people, several temporary PhD students and assistants, and is lead by professor Paul Van der Meeren.

As we are linked to the Faculty of Bioscience Engineering, our research is application oriented. Our mission is to deliver solutions for civil or industrial problems, based on short or long-term studies. We are currently applying our know-how in the fields of:

  • Protein and polysaccharide technology
  • Sludge dewatering
  • Liposome applications
Upon browsing through this website you will discover:
  • the Services we can provide
  • an overview of our Equipment
  • an idea of the Research fields we are working in
  • some useful Links to the Particle and Interfacial Science and Technology world
  • an overview of our Staff

By the way, did you know that paint - a mixture of a pigment and a suitable liquid to form a closely adherent coating when spread on a surface in a thin coat, according to the dictionary - is a perfect example of a colloidal system, where formulation and pigment particle size will determine long term stability and color brightness and therefore product quality and customer satisfaction...
